Breaking The Big Six

Fischer Energy launched as one of 50 challenger providers looking to break the monopoly of The Big Six – British Gas, Eon, SSE, Scottish Power, Npower and EDF Energy.

An independently owned company, Fischer had no right to be seen, yet Consumer King devised a media strategy through print, online and broadcast platforms, propelling founder Keith Bastian to the forefront of national news. The coverage made Keith and the Fischer Energy brand instantly recognisable and synonymous with affordable gas and electric.

No bill-shock

Through Consumer King, Fischer dovetailed with other challenger companies lobbying the government to scrap ‘rip-off’ Standard Variable Tariffs with significant changes in the law being delivered as a result.

We devised a ‘no bill-shock’ campaign encouraging Fischer customers to provide regular meter readings. The campaign merged with Hyundai, gifting one customer a new electric Hyundai Ioniq-EV.

“Consumer King fulfilled their pledge at the start of the contract; brand awareness delivered to a multi-million audience. It’s rare for a PR operator to live up to their pitch. Both myself and Fischer Energy benefitted from prominent coverage across national and local news. The content they created was well researched and palatable for our target market. “

The outcome

Fischer’s customer numbers grew from fewer than 900 to 70,000 in the first nine months of working alongside Consumer King. Search engines such as Google now rank Fischer Energy highly for an abundance of keyword phrases thanks to the above ‘earned media’ campaigns.
